OUR STORY

Let’s Talk Mental Health (LTMH) was founded in November 2018 by Anusha Chowdhury and Sankhulani Daka, driven by their shared passion to address the global mental health crisis. Anusha, a mental health advocate from Bangladesh, was deeply motivated by the tragic loss of her best friend to suicide, while Sankhulani, who once battled severe depression and anxiety, found renewed hope and purpose through Anusha’s compassion and understanding.

Their combined experiences inspired them to create LTMH—a platform dedicated to providing accessible mental health support through education, art, and advocacy. Their journey from struggle to strength became a cornerstone of the organization’s mission, as they co-led efforts to build a global community of support.

Despite facing significant challenges, Anusha and Sankhulani nurtured LTMH into an internationally recognized initiative, breaking mental health stigmas and empowering individuals across 27 districts in Bangladesh and 17 countries worldwide. Today, LTMH’s transformative programs have impacted millions, training educators, parents, and grassroots leaders to advocate for mental health.

Guided by the vision of its co-founders, LTMH remains a beacon of hope, helping countless individuals find healing, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose.

PROBLEM

1 in every 8 people, or 970 + million people around the world are living with a mental disorder. The number of people living with mental disorders rose significantly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 75% of people with mental health conditions do not have access to mental health care. Many people avoid seeking help as a result of stigma, discrimination and violations of human rights.

SOLUTION

Objective 1: Increase Access to Mental Health Care
Let’s Talk Mental Health aims to bridge the gap in access to mental health care for individuals living with mental disorders. We will establish partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies to create a comprehensive network of services. This network will offer affordable and accessible mental health resources, including counselling, support groups, and online therapy options. Additionally, we will advocate for policies that prioritize mental health funding and resources, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to receive the care they need.

Objective 2: Combat Stigma and Promote Human Rights
To address the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health, Let’s Talk Mental Health will implement awareness campaigns and educational programs that promote understanding and acceptance. By fostering open conversations about mental health, we aim to challenge societal perceptions and reduce the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help. Our initiatives will focus on highlighting personal stories, sharing valuable information, and advocating for the human rights of individuals with mental health conditions. By creating a supportive community and empowering individuals to share their experiences, we will work towards a society where mental health is prioritized and respected.
